SPEAKERS

Michael Upton, Advocate, Hastie Stable. Michael was called to the Scots Bar in 1991. He has a civil practice and extensive experience of commercial, contractual, company, agricultural, property, planning, reparation, tax & public-law disputes. From 1994 to 2004 he was sole defence counsel for the State of Libya in Pan Am v. Libya, the largest claim for damages in Scots legal history.

Michael Dempsey, Advocate, Hastie Stable. Michael Dempsey called to the bar in July 2017. Michael trained as a solicitor with MacRoberts before pursuing a career as an advocate. Michael gained experience in a wide range of litigation in both the Court of Session and Sheriff Court, including commercial, insolvency, and construction litigation. He built upon this experience during his period of devilling, undertaking a wide variety of work including commercial contracts, public procurement, professional negligence, immigration, employment, and proceeds of crime.
