Employment Law & HR Essentials

• The differences between ‘employee’, ‘worker’ and ‘self-employed’ including the different rights and obligations for each.
• An overview of the recruitment process from an employment law perspective and the potential for discrimination claims even before a job offer has been made.
• Once you have taken on staff, what documents you are required to provide. 
• How to deal with everyday HR issues such as poor performance, grievances and sickness absences.
• The correct procedures for dismissing staff so as to avoid discrimination or unfair dismissal claims.

The objective of this workshop is to help business owners to understand their obligations under employment law. By the end of the workshop you should understand:

• The difference between an employee, worker and someone who is self-employed so they are able to decide which would be the best option when they are taking on staff.
• What their legal obligations are once they have employees including, insurance requirements, national minimum wage, pensions etc
• How best to prevent a tribunal claim being raised against them including during the recruitment stage and, particularly with regard to discrimination and the Equality Act
• What documents they are required to provide to employees before or, on the day they commence employment, such as a Contract of Employment and Staff Handbook and what they should contain.
• The process for dealing with difficult employees and dismissal of employees. 

This workshop is aimed at growing businesses who are looking to take on staff or already have staff and are unsure of their legal obligations or how to deal with staffing issues. No prior understanding of employment law is required.

Ezra is a qualified Associate Legal Executive with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) specialising in Employment Law. She has several years’ experience advising and assisting companies, particularly SMEs, across many sectors with various aspects of HR and Employment Law, providing advice from the moment they decide to take on staff through to handling terminations. She can also assist with responding to Employment Tribunal claims.
