OBJECTIVES

• To gain an understanding of the rights of a cohabitant under Section 29 of the Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006
• To gain an understanding of the circumstances in which a claim may be made under Section 29
• To gain an understanding of the time limits applying to Section 29
• To gain an understanding of what changes and reforms are being contemplated in respect of Section 29

SPEAKERS

The speaker is John Kerrigan, Blackadders. John is a Consultant within the Blackadders Private Client Team and has over 40 years of legal practical experience, 34 of them as a Partner. He was a Tutor at the Glasgow Graduate School of Law for 12 enjoyable years tutoring diploma students in the subjects of Wills, Trusts & Succession.  He has also been a member of the Trust and Succession Sub-Committee of the Law Society of Scotland since 2005.  John has contributed to various articles to, inter alia, the Scots Law Times, The Journal of the Law Society of Scotland, The Scotsman and various other newspapers and periodical magazines. He is also current Editor of the Scottish Trusts and Succession Service provided by Greens.  John is the author of “Drafting for Succession” now in its second edition.   He is currently working on other legal literary works.
