OBJECTIVES

This full day advocacy masterclass will look at developing the full range of court skills required for an effective Sheriff Court practice. Of benefit to both civil and criminal practitioners, the morning session will focus on the key skills required in making advocacy submissions before courts, tribunals and even in presentations. There will be a lot of time set aside for participants to try their skills under the supervision of the instructor. In the afternoon the emphasis will turn to structuring submissions.

PARTICIPANTS

This course is likely to be of value to busy civil and criminal sheriff court practitioners at every level of experience, but of particular benefit for those up to 5 years PQE.

SPEAKER

David Parratt QC. David has a particular interest in legal education and training. In 2006 he obtained a PhD from Edinburgh University on the subject of `The Development of Written Pleadings in Scots Civil Procedure`. He has been in practice at the Scottish Bar for over 18 years, a Barrister at the English Bar for over 7 years and is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. David has a wide ranging practice covering many different aspects of civil law. He is particularly strong in the areas of land law construction, trust work, general commercial work and contract.
